Most of us inherit our teams of employees. How do we know we have the right players on our team?

Successful leaders start:

  1. By identifying skill sets, this particular team, needs to reach the goals. In shortest time possible.

  2. Then comparing ideal skill sets with those on your team.

  3. Can AI add missing skills?

  4. Before replacing team members re-assess who on team is doing what.  Juggling responsibilities can make life more enjoyable and rewarding for all. Key area to see opportunities for AI.

  5. Next, assess where else in organization missing skills can be obtained. Can you beg or borrow additional skill sets, when and for as long as needed. Hire consultants to add skills. Do you know former employees who could fill in.

After exhausting those options consider who on team needs replacing. Identifying, and making changes painlessly are traits leaders are hired for.

Talked to VP last week and asked her for tips. She meets with other leaders of teams to see what skill sets they want strengthened. Do they have excess of skills, she needs. She says “leaders can and should, identify how to juggle people. Goal to strengthen all teams. One of skills I was hired for: ability to work with others to overcome obstacles.”

When she can do this, it’s win-win.  Employees’ skills being transferred are optimized. Teams are strengthened.

“I always try to remember: people picked for teams are successful employees. They are highly thought of. Optimizing performance is responsibility of all.”

Leadership: Innovate, streamline, and simplify to excel and optimize.
